The organized labour in Ondo State comprises the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, the Trade Union Congress, TUC and the Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, have denied a misleading information on social media that workers in the state are planning to stage protest against the change of their salary payment platform.
This is contained in a Press Statement signed by Comrade Olapade Ademola, NLC State Chairman; Comrade Fatuase Clement, TUC State Chairman and Comrade Ajiboye Oluwasegun, JNC State Chairman.
According to the labour movement, “THERE IS NO PLANNED PROTEST OVER SALARY PAYMENT PLATFORM CHANGE: The attention of the Ondo state organised Labour has been drawn to a false and misleading rumour been circulated by some elements that workers in Ondo State are planning to stage a protest against the Ondo state government over an alleged plan to change the salary payment platform from REMITA to another platform.
“We wish to categorically state that this information is completely false, baseless, and designed to mislead the general public and government and create unnecessary tension or misunderstanding between the Ondo State government and organised labour
“The Ondo State Government has not taken any decision that negatively affects the payment of workers’ salaries. Beside, the government has the right to employ the service of any payments firm suitable to its standard and that can safeguard its resources.
“Ours as leaders of workers is to ensure that the government prioritizes the welfare of its workforce. Furthermore, we want to assure you that every decision regarding salary payments is made with transparency, due consultation, and the best interest of Ondo state workers.
“Consequently, no credible workers’ union or association has authorized any form of protest regarding this matter. Any individual or group[s] spreading this falsehood is only trying to cause confusion and disrupt industrial harmony in the state.
“We urge the State Government, civil servants and other stakeholders in Ondo State to disregard this unfounded rumour and go about their normal duties.
“The Ondo state government remains committed to prompt and efficient salary payments and will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders on any necessary administrative improvements. E SOLETO, E AFRICA.”
