Press Statement
Complete Ijoka Road To Idanre, If Your Administration Is Truly People-Oriented
The Peoples Democratic Party Ondo State Chapter takes cognisance of the underlying self-serving agenda of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the recent flag-off of a 10 km road project from Oke Aro Junction to Idanre, while a similar road project, Ijoka Road to Idanre, has been abandoned.
Much as the flag-off of a new road project might have appeared as people-oriented, our Party could see that the move was after all, extremely self-centred in that Mr Governor’s pecuniary interest could no longer be covered in the abandoned Ijoka road project, thus the need to embark on the new road project that can accommodate his own financial kickbacks.
We challenge Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to explain to the public the motive behind his desire to abandon the Ijoka road project that also links Akure to Idanre and choose to flag off a new road with similar purposes.
He should also be kind enough to tell us why residents and users of the Ijoka road axis deserve to be continually punished for too long, having been experiencing nightmares as they pass through the axis daily.
The party is deeply worried about gross misapplication of another round of several billions of the tax payers’ money which are about to be fleeced away under the pretext of embarking on a new road construction when a fraction of such monies can be used to complete the ongoing Ijoka road project that will still serve the same purposes, and the rest of the monies can also be used to complete other nearly abandoned road projects in the State.
If there is an urgent need in that Idanre axis, perhaps for political reasons, one would have expected the Governor to flag off the new road construction from Idanre to Ofosu where value can be gotten for the humongous amount of money that is about to be misapplied.
The Idanre-Ofosu road construction will open up the areas for more economic activities and further connect the axis to the Benin-Ore-Lagos express road.
Our Party advises the Governor to always put the people first in his government and ensure that their welfare and security occupy the front burner of governance.
We further counsel that all the ongoing road projects left behind by his boss, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, be completed rather than embarking on a wild goose chase and white elephant project that is ostensibly being mounted for personal aggrandizement but cunningly wrapped in public clothing.
