….Collaborates Ondo Govt, Akure South authorities.
Rotary Club of Akure Metro today, Saturday 29th March, 2025 mobilised members and friends to join officials of the Ondo State Government to participate in the March edition of the monthly Environmental Sanitation as part of activities to mark Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Month.
During the sanitation exercise, the Rotary Club leaders, members and friends of the Paul Percy Harris Family, joined officials led by the Chairman of the Ondo State Waste Management Board, Mrs Yinka Alabi, to clean up and enforce compliance in and around market areas of Arakale and Oba Adesida roads.
The organisation ensured the cleaning of the popular Oja Oba and some neighbouring areas within the axis.
Other Presidents who were part of the exercise included; Rotorian Adegoke, Akure Prestige; Rotn Alawiye, Akure; Rotn Obaromi, Akure City; Rotn Kate, Rep Akure Royals and Assistant Governor, Rotn Olalekan Oni.
Speaking with on the exercise, the President of Rotary Club of Akure Metro, Rotarian (Dr.) Toyin Adeyalo Ogundare said the gesture tallies with the club’s theme for the month.
Rotarian Ogundare said “the Rotary Club in Akure has come to mark the month of March as we do have focus for each month. We have joined forces with OSWMA and Akure South Local Government to participate in the exercise.
She called on residents to embrace proper waste disposal to prevent diseases outbreak in the state.
In an interview, the Chairman, Ondo State Waste Management Board, Mrs Yinka Alabi called for the collaboration of more Non-Governmental Organisations in ensuring a cleaner Ondo State.
Alabi specifically commended the Rotary Club of Akure Metro for its involvement in the March edition of the state monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Akure.
Describing the Rotary Club of Akure Metro commitment to the sanitation exercise as an expression of its love for the environment, the Board Chairman noted that it is important that stakeholders have all hands on deck to have an improved environment.
On his part, the Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Fasua while also applauding Rotary Club of Akure Metro support in ensuring a cleaner state capital, called for more collaboration in fulfilling the purpose of sanitation in Akure.
Fasua frowned at the lackadaisical attitude of some residents to the exercise noting that its essence must not be abused but strictly adhered to.
He said that “anyone who violate the sanitation law would be dealt with from now on. The stipulated period for the exercise is not meant for (community) meetings or playing football but a time to keep the environment clean.”
