ODHA RAISES ALARM OVER ACTIVITIES OF ILLEGAL MINERS IN ONDO STATE.
Sequel to the petition written to the Ondo State House of Assembly by the Jegun of ileoluji in Okeigbo Local Government Area of the State, Oba Oluwole Adetomehin over the alledged invasion by illegal miners in the area, the Speaker of the House, Rt .Hon.( Chief) Olamide Oladiji has called on the Federal Government to curtail such activities in the State in order ensure safety of lives and property.
The call was made on Tuesday after the reading of the petition of the royal father on the floor of the House by the Lawmaker representing ileoluji/Okeigbo Constituency, Honourable Nelson Akinsuroju.
The traditional ruler had earlier sought the immediate intervention of the State Government on the matter which he described as catastrophic.
This was contained in an official statement made available to journalists by the Chairman,House Committee on Information, Honourable (Chief), Olatunji Oshati.
Oladiji who joined other lawmakers to condemn the barbaric and dangerous activities of the illegal miners in strong terms, called on relevant security agencies at the Federal level to checkmate such invasion.
As part of the resolution reached on the floor of the House, the lawmakers appealed to the Federal Government to always monitor the activities of miners to avoid destruction of lives and properties.
While directing the House Committee on Mineral Resources to embark on oversight function to the concerned areas in order to ascertain the possible solution to the menace ,the Speaker stressed the need for individuals to report illegal miners to the appropriate quarter for proper action.
Oladiji, who warned those that engage in such nefarious acts to desist or face the full wrath of the law, commended the Governor of Ondo State, Honourable Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for the various developmental projects across the State
Also in his contribution, the House majority leader, Hon.Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi opined that any individual who is involved in mining activities should always endeavour to register with the State Government for proper monitoring.
